The Important Role of Mental Illness and Substance Abuse in Successful Management of HIV Infection

This special issue of the Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (JANAC) is devoted to two of the most common comorbidities of HIV infection: substance abuse and mental illness. Despite remarkable medical advances, growing research attention, and evidence-based interventions, mental illness and substance use and abuse continue to present significant challenges for both persons living with HIV disease (PLWH) and their health care providers.
