This study is an attempt to investigate the effects of intrathecal administration of Melissa officinalis on the pain induced by heat and formalin. In this experimental study, seventy male Wistar rats with an average weight of 270-320 g were randomly divided into 5 groups: control; sham, that received 25 μl of saline through the spinal catheter; and three experimental groups, that received 5, 10 or 20 mg/kg Melissa officinalis via the spinal catheter respectively. Five days after catheterization of the spinal cord from the lumbar region under anesthesia, the effects of Intrathecal administration of Melissa officinalis on ...

ConclusionsThe PCV-VG mode of ventilation limited the peak inspiratory pressure, decreased the driving pressure and increased the dynamic compliance compared to VCV in obese patients undergoing laparoscopic hysterectomy. PCV-VG may be a preferable modality to prevent barotrauma during laparoscopic surgeries in obese patients.

Abstract The inhalational anaesthetic agent - sevoflurane is widely employed for the induction and maintenance of surgical anaesthesia. Sevoflurane possesses a high global warming potential that imposes negative impact to the environment. The only way to resolve the issue is to remove sevoflurane from the medical waste gas before it reaches the atmosphere. A continuous adsorption study with a fixed-bed column was conducted using two commercial granular activated carbons (E-GAC and H-GAC), to selectively remove sevoflurane. The effect of bed depth (Z, 5-15 cm), gas flow rate (Q, 0.5-6.0 L/min) and inlet sevoflu...

Hello bone bad boys! I'm an anesthesiologist who has worked at a high volume total joint center of excellence, usually 5-8 total joints/day/OR out by 4/5 with some pretty excellent/good-natured surgeons I'd let operate on my family. Everything was for the most part efficient, almost everyone who was a good candidate had a spinal, possible regional vs. surgeon injecting exparel (more likely injection), 25 min turnovers. I'm at a place now where the surgeon preferences are more variable... Anesthesiologist question on your ortho preferences

ConclusionThis research supports and extends the ethnomedicinal use of C. songarica as diuretic and hypotensive agent. The results showed that AS-CS from C. songarica could present compounds responsible for hypotensive and diuretic activities with no signs of toxicity, and these effects could involve nitric oxide pathway activated by muscarinic receptors or/and inhibition of angiotensin converting enzyme.Graphical abstract

This study aimed to observe the effects of different degrees of neuromuscular blockade on state and response entropy during sevoflurane anesthesia. MATERIAL AND METHODS Eighty-one female patients were randomized to 9 groups (n=9 per group) according to the concentration of sevoflurane and degree of neuromuscular blockade. Response and state entropy were monitored. The endpoints were: 1) impact of neuromuscular blockade on state entropy and response entropy, and the difference between response entropy and state entropy; and 2) the response of entropy after cutaneous tetanic electrical noxious stimulation to the ulnar nerve ...

The cerebellar cortical molecular layer interneuron-Purkinje cell (MLI-PC) synapses are critical for various information integration and transmission, which are sensitive to acute and ...

While recreational marijuana is legal in 11 states as of November 2019, more states gravitating toward legalizing the recreational use of the substance, and 33 states allowing medical marijuana, there’s apparently no stopping this trend. Cannabis, in the form of marijuana, hemp, and cannabidiol (CBD)  is being used for pain relief, to alleviate stress, cope with anxiety, and a number of other mental health disorders and addictions. Yet, there’s a dearth of clinical studies that have been conducted on the overall effects on a user’s health. Clearly, as Crain’s Detroit Business points out, more ...

Just before I induced anesthesia, he said, “Doc, I want to apologize beforehand. I am incontinent due to a previous surgery so I might wet the sheets.” I told him not to worry and that we understood and that“these things do happen.” His response has stuck with me:“Doc, but there is still some […]Find jobs at  Careers by KevinMD.com.  Search thousands of physician, PA, NP, and CRNA jobs now.  Learn more.
