Fred Hutch researcher aims to cure HIV with 'ninja warrior' cells
Dr. Larry Corey hopes to find a way to harness a person's own immune system to cure HIV and other chronic viral infections, much like the immunotherapy treatments already being developed to treat cancer at biotechnology companies like Juno Therapeutics.
He received a $2.6 million grant last month to explore this immunotherapy option and will work with other experts at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research, University of Washington, Oregon Health& Science University as well as Juno on the project.
