Seroprevalence and potential risk factors of T. gondii infection in pregnant women attending antenatal care at Bonga Hospital, Southwestern Ethiopia

Toxoplasmosis is one of the major zoonotic parasitic diseases with worldwide distribution caused by cyst forming intracellular protozoan parasite, T. gondii.1 Cats are final hosts, whereas a wide range of warm blooded animals, including humans serve as an intermediate hosts.2 Approximately, one third of the world ’s human populations are reported to be seropositive for anti-T. gondii antibodies3 worldwide T. gondii has a complex life cycle in which asexual reproduction takes place in diverse tissues of intermediate hosts and sexual reproduction takes place in final hosts.
