Observational study of haemostatic dysfunction and bleeding in neonates with hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy
Objective Evaluate the relationship between initial haemostatic parameters and the frequency and severity of bleeding in neonates with hypoxic–ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE). Design Retrospective observational cohort study. Setting 2 academically affiliated level III neonatal intensive care units in Atlanta, Georgia. Participants 98 neonates with moderate-to-severe HIE who underwent haemostatic testing within 12 hours of birth and were born from 1 January 2008 to 31 December 2013. Primary and secondary outcome measures Initial haemostatic dysfunction was defined as one or more of the following: prothrombin time (PT) ≥18 s, platelet count
ConclusionsIntrauterine Bigatti Shaver® is a feasible technique for placental remnants removal. Further studies comparing various surgical treatment are needed to define which technique is the safest and completely remove placental remnants.
ConclusionsThe key determinants of the Bleeding Ratio among anticoagulated AF patients are age, prior thromboembolic and bleeding episodes. The study could support identification of AF patients who need additional effort to increase their acceptance of a life-long OAC therapy.
Authors: Iyer KS, Dayal S Abstract Platelets are small, anucleated effector cells that play an important role in linking the hemostatic and inflammatory processes in the body. Platelet function is known to be altered under various inflammatory conditions including aging. A gain in platelet function during aging can increase the risk of thrombotic events, such as stroke and acute myocardial infarction. Anti-platelet therapy is designed to reduce risk of serious cerebrovascular and cardiovascular events, but the adverse consequences of therapy, such as risk for bleeding increases with aging as well. Age-associated co...

Conclusion. Both ACF and PCF showed significant clinical improvement of radiculopathy. In the ACF group, the DH decreased, and CL decreased during the early postoperative period. Radiological parameters were preserved in the PCF group after surgery. However, this group showed greater intraoperative bleeding and revision rates. Care should be taken to manage complications according to the specific surgical treatment. Level of Evidence: 3
Objectives: We aimed to describe changes over time in admissions and outcomes, including length of stay, discharge destinations, and mortality of cirrhotic patients admitted to the ICU for variceal bleeding, and to compare it to the outcomes of those with other causes of ICU admissions. Design: Retrospective analysis of data captured prospectively in the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society Centre for Outcome and Resource Evaluation Adult Patient Database. Settings: One hundred eighty-three ICUs in Australia and New Zealand. Patients: Consecutive admissions to these ICUs for upper gastrointestinal b...
CONCLUSION: Envenomation by subaquatic species is common and preventable yet the dissemination of the appropriate knowledge is limited. This knowledge summary provides pertinent information aimed at divers in preventing and managing such injuries. PMID: 31523798 [PubMed - in process]
Conclusions Unilateral and bilateral SSLF techniques produce similar clinical outcomes. USSLF and BSSLF performed using the new anchoring system are safe and effective methods to treat pelvic organ prolapse. PMID: 31523098 [PubMed]
ConclusionWater vapor endometrial ablation preserved an accessible uterine cavity and visualization of the ostia in the majority of subjects, with minimal incidence of severe adhesions a mean of four years following the ablation procedure.
