Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy with multiple coronary arteries to right ventricular microfistulas: a case report and review of the literature

ConclusionsIn this case report and literature review, we highlight an unusual but important association that can lead to symptomatic worsening of angina in young patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy owing to coronary steal phenomena.

We report 5 cases of tumors mimicking CMs. We compared clinical, initial radiologic features, and MRI evolution between 5 tumor mimics and 51 true hemorrhagic, sporadic, brain CM. Compared to true CM, mimic patients were older (47.0 vs. 38.3 years; p = 0.076) and more likely to have a history of primary neoplasm (60% vs 12%; p = 0.0267). Radiologically, the CM mimics demonstrated a higher likelihood of lesion enhancement on the initial diagnostic MRI (60% vs. 16.7%%; p = 0.0609). On follow-up MRI (

Previous studies have shown that readmissions following surgical aortic valve replacement are frequent and contribute to increased healthcare costs, yet no studies have analyzed risk factors for readmission.MethodsThe Nationwide Readmissions Database was used to identify adult patients under...

Authors: Bolat I, Biteker M Abstract Objectives. Although the modified Glasgow Prognostic Score (mGPS) has been reported to have prognostic value in patients with various cancers, the association between mGPS and prognosis in patients with heart diseases have not been well studied. The aim of this study was to evaluate the predictive value of mGPS in outcomes of patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Design. We prospectively followed consecutive adult patients with HFpEF admitted to the cardiology outpatient unit. Echocardiographic and laboratory data were recorded at enrolment. mGPS w...

Postoperative pain is not adequately managed in greater than 40% of surgical patients and is a high priority for perioperative research. In this meta-analysis, we examined studies comparing postoperative opioid consumption and pain scores in surgical patients who received methadone by any route vs those who received another opioid by any route. Studies were identified from PubMed, Cochrane, Web of Science, EMBASE, and Scopus from January 1966 to November 2018. Pooled odds ratios were calculated for a primary outcome of postoperative opioid consumption and secondary outcomes of time-to-extubation, time-to-first postoperativ...

In this study we sought to characterize the sexual dimorphism observed within cardiac physiology and transcriptomics of adult male and female mice bearing the HCM-associated cTnC-A8V point mutation. The H CM mice showed a significant decrease in stroke volume, left ventricular diameter, volume, and relative wall thickness. Importantly, isovolumetric contraction time was significantly higher for female HCM mice. RNA sequencing revealed several altered canonical pathways within the HCM mice vs WT group s including an increase in EIF2 signaling, ILK signaling, actin nucleation by ARP-WASP complex, regulation of actin-based mo...
