A novel methodology to study polymodal particle size distributions produced during continuous wet granulation
Publication date: 15 March 2017 Source:International Journal of Pharmaceutics, Volume 519, Issues 1–2 Author(s): Carlota Mendez Torrecillas, Gavin W. Halbert, Dimitrios A. Lamprou It is important during powder granulation to obtain particles of a homogeneous size especially in critical situations such as pharmaceutical manufacture. To date, homogeneity of particle size distribution has been defined by the use of the d50 combined with the span of the particle size distribution, which has been found ineffective for polymodal particle size distributions. This work focuses on demonstrating the limitations of the span parameter to quantify homogeneity and proposes a novel improved metric based on the transformation of a typical particle size distribution curve into a homogeneity factor which can vary from 0 to 100%. The potential of this method as a characterisation tool has been demonstrated through its application to the production of granules using two different materials. The workspace of an 11mm twin screw granulator was defined for two common excipients (α-lactose monohydrate and microcrystalline cellulose). Homogeneity of the obtained granules varied dramatically from 0 to 95% in the same workspace, allowing identification of critical process parameters (e.g. feed rate, liquid/solid ratio, torque velocities). In addition it defined the operational conditions required to produce the most homogeneous product within the range 5μm–2.2mm from both materials...
Authors: Mendoza De La Garza M, Tieu C, Schroeder D, Lowe K, Tung E Abstract Medical schools throughout the country struggle with how best to train students to provide quality, patient-centered care to the burgeoning population of older adults. The Senior Sages Program (SSP) is a longitudinal Senior Mentor Program (SMP) that offers students the opportunity to learn about the aging process and core geriatric medicine concepts through the eyes of an aging expert: their Senior Sage. The SSP marries a robust electronic curriculum with an SMP and online discussion board. The aim of this program evaluation was to measure...

Discussion When men enacted female-typical caregiving roles, their retirement timing resembled women's. Eldercare, in particular, was associated with earlier retirement timing. Implications for individual retirement decision-making and policy are discussed. PMID: 29911387 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
The former Tory leader has urged his party to consider legalising recreational use of the drug.
According to Toronto-based scholar Dr Jeanette Bicknell from York University, people's feelings about their use of time contributes to wellbeing as much as their wealth.
STOMACH bloating is caused by eating something that your stomach disagrees with, or something that you're allergic to. It involves a swelling in the stomach which can be painful. Juicing guru, Jason Vale, recommended trying this drink on ITV's This Morning to help beat the bloat.
LONDON (Reuters) - Britain said on Tuesday it had no intention of legalizing cannabis after a former leader of Prime Minister Theresa May's party said the government had "irreversibly lost" the battle to drive the drug off the streets.
Researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia, found HIV tests can give false negative results for up to seven months among those taking PrEP.
CONCLUSION: Childhood cholesteatoma was more extensive and destructive compared to adults, representing a more aggressive disease in this cohort. PMID: 29909808 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
CONCLUSION: The results show a good correlation between the pre-operatively predicted insertion depths using the software application and those post-operatively measured using X-ray. The insertion length predicted by the software was always longer than that measured via X-ray. PMID: 29909807 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
