The anal groove sign: The use of dermatoscopy for identification of Ixodes ticks

In endemic areas, the bite of an Ixodes tick confers a risk of transmission of Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease. Bedside identification of the Ixodes species is a clinically relevant exercise that subsequently requires further testing and/or treatment for Lyme disease. Herein we describe a highly specific bedside exam with the use of dermoscopy that allows for identification of the Ixodes species.
