In vitro activity of antimicrobial agents against multidrug- and extensively drug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii.

Abstract
Multidrug- (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) Acinetobacter baumannii (Ab) difficult the treatment of severe infections. We evaluated the in vitro activity of antimicrobial agents against 71 carbapenem-resistant clonal diverse clinical Ab strains recovered from Brazilian hospitals. Minocycline and polypeptides presented activity against >98% of the isolates, indicating their potential against MDR or XDR carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii from main clones circulating in Brazil.
