UW spins out PvP Biologics to develop treatment for celiac disease
PvP Biologics quietly spun out of the University of Washington last month and on Tuesday announced it is developing a treatment for celiac disease.
The disease, which affect an estimated 2.4 million Americans, is an immune system reaction to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye.
Sticking to a gluten-free diet is costly and challenging, says PvP Biologics. The company is developing an enzyme that can be taken orally and survive an d function in the harsh acidic environment of the stomach.
