Early Pulmonary Complications following Total Knee Arthroplasty under General Anesthesia: A Prospective Cohort Study Using CT Scan.

CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of early PPCs following TKA was high. For patients with relevant risk factors, positive measures should be adopted to prevent PPCs. PMID: 27069922 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

Publication date: Available online 17 February 2020Source: Zoologischer AnzeigerAuthor(s): Iago Bueno da Silva, Sandra Daruiche Buganeme, Ana Maria Costa-LeonardoAbstractNeocapritermes opacus is a Neotropical termite, which feeds on a variety of food sources, including highly decayed wood and humus. Similar to many Termitidae, this species contains a mixed segment in the intestine, an anatomic distinct region composed of both mesenteric and proctodeal tissues. In Neocapritermes spp., a pair of intestinal protrusions referred to as mesenteric sacs are associated with the mixed segment. In the present study, with the aid of ...

HegazyAbstractGamma radiation synthesis of Polyaniline/glycidyl methacrylate [P(ANI/GMA)] and Polyaniline/glycidyl methacrylate/Ag2O (P(ANI/GMA)-Ag2O were prepared by adding different concentrations of AgNO3 to the prepared Polyaniline/glycidyl methacrylate. The formation of the function groups of P(ANI/GMA) and P(ANI/GMA)-Ag2O nanocomposites have been investigated by FT-IR. The X-ray patterns of P(ANI/GMA)-Ag2O nanocomposites showed more than crystalline ...

In this study, we found that cofilin competes with tau for direct microtubule binding in vitro, in cells, and in vivo, which inhibits tau-induced microtubule assembly. Genetic reduction of cofilin mitigates tauopathy and synaptic defects in Tau-P301S mice and movement deficits in tau transgenic C. elegans. The pathogenic effects of cofilin are selectively mediated by activated cofilin, as active but not inactive cofilin selectively interacts with tubulin, destabilizes microtubules, and promotes tauopathy. These results therefore indicate that activated cofilin plays an essential intermediary role in neurotoxic signaling th...

In this study, we found that senescent chondrocytes isolated from OA patients secrete more EVs compared with nonsenescent chondrocytes. These EVs inhibit cartilage ECM deposition by healthy chondrocytes and can induce a senescent state in nearby cells. We profiled the miR and protein content of EVs isolated from the synovial fluid of OA joints from mice with SnCs. After treatment with a molecule to remove SnCs, termed a senolytic, the composition of EV-associated miR and protein was markedly altered. The senolytic reduced OA development and enhanced chondrogenesis, and these were attributable to several specific differenti...

A new research review has plenty of good news for people who love a good sauna session: Studies overwhelmingly suggest that the relaxing habit is also a healthy one. A paper published Wednesday in Mayo Clinic Proceedings gathered existing findings on Finnish sauna bathing, the practice of spending time in relatively dry rooms heated to between 80 and 100 degrees, interspersed with periods of cooling. The results were culled from more than 70 studies published up through February 2018. Overall, the research suggests that “sauna bathing, an activity used for the purposes of pleasure, wellness, and relaxation, is linked...

ConclusionsPatients who developed an acute hematogenous infection with non‐staphylococcus species following operative debridement and continuous irrigation with prosthetic retention had satisfactory outcomes, but patients infected with staphylococcal had poor results. To improve the success rate of treatment, patients should be treated as soon as possible and individually according to the bacterial culture results.
