ConclusionsAnalysis of outcomes in patients with BCVI suggests that BVI should be distinguished from the better-studied CVI. Each injury type has been found to possess its own distinct risk factors, likelihoods of progression, and surgical accessibility, all of which affect management. Data on complete vessel transections remains limited for all BCVIs, with no documented cases of bilateral BVI to date. Our case study supports the 100% mortality rate seen in previously reported BCVI transections. Furthermore, our findings suggest that BVI transections occur in patients with coexisting injuries, which challenges the ability ...

Conclusions: This case series of pediatric patients with PVNS of the knee represents the largest single-center cohort in the literature. Although previously considered a disease of young adult patients, PVNS should be considered in pediatric patients with an insidious onset of joint swelling with or without pain. Symptoms may be present for months to years before diagnosis. Patients are frequently misdiagnosed, most commonly with rheumatologic diseases, bleeding disorders, or septic arthritis. MRI with gradient echo sequences is the diagnostic imaging study of choice and arthroscopic synovectomy produces good outcomes wi...

Authors: Ram E, Bachar GN, Goldes Y, Joubran S, Rath-Wolfson L Abstract Background: Hemorrhoids are a common anorectal condition with a major medical and socioeconomic impact. Owing to the high incidence of symptomatic hemorrhoids in the adult population together with the risk of complications of traditional surgery, researchers are seeking less invasive methods of hemorrhoidal treatment. The aim of this study was to present our experience with the mini-invasive Doppler guided hemorrhoidal laser procedure (HeLP) in symptomatic 2nd and 3rd degree hemorrhoids with absent or minimal mucosal prolapse. Methods: The c...

A 45-year-old man with human immunodeficiency virus infection and undetectable viral load on antiretroviral therapy, who engaged in sex with men, was evaluated for 1 month of constipation, abdominal pain, and intermittent rectal bleeding. He reported a transient rash, which resolved at presentation. A colonoscopy (Figure A) showed aphthous ulcers, friability, and exudates in the rectosigmoid colon and cecum with normal intervening colon and terminal ileum. A colonic biopsy (Figure B) showed long, undulating bacteria attached vertically to the brush border, and stained black with Warthin –Starry stain, consistent with...

This study is a prospective double-blind study that was done in patients undergoing septoplasty. The study was created with 90 patients. All patients were divided into four groups. The each group was applied 2% lidocaine plus adrenaline, 2% tetracaine, 4% articaine plus adrenaline as study groups or 0.9% sodium chloride (NaCl) as control group in their Merocel packs after septoplasty. Verbal analog scale (VAS) was applied to all patients and the amount of postoperative hemorrhage was noted during postoperative period. The statistical analysis was performed using Student ’st test and Chi-square test on each patient gr...

Low but rising serum human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels occur infrequently after an induced abortion. Because this scenario rarely occurs after suction aspiration, clinicians may have higher suspicion for an uncommon diagnosis. The differential diagnosis includes both common and uncommon diagnoses, such as incomplete abortion, heterotopic or ectopic pregnancy, a new intrauterine pregnancy, and gestational trophoblastic neoplasia. The etiology of this presentation may be unclear, especially in the absence of abnormal bleeding or pain which would suggest incomplete abortion, or when significant time has passed since the procedure.

AbstractPurpose of reviewPatients suffering from acute lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT) are at risk for developing chronic limb pain, heaviness, and fatigue, known as the post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS).Recent findingsAlthough several studies have shown that catheter-directed therapy reduces clot burden and may improve clinical outcomes, the multicenter randomized controlled ATTRACT trial showed no difference in PTS or quality of life at 2  years between patients treated with pharmacomechanical catheter-directed thrombolysis (PCDT) and those treated with anticoagulation alone, and a higher major bleeding rate...

Conclusions: The rate of VATS PDA closure conversion to standard thoracotomy features a learning curve. Although it must be considered as a serious complication, probably it does not negatively affect either early the mortality rate or long-term survival. PMID: 30069190 [PubMed]
