ConclusionThe new computer-controlled cooling therapy device provides benefits in terms of early post-operative remobilisation with respect to ROM and pain, which might be attributed to a reduced inflammatory response, as well as reduced secretion and bleeding. The cTreatment ® system appears to be a safe and efficient procedure.

ConclusionClinical manifestations of gastrointestinal aspergillosis are nonspecific, such as abdominal pain, and only occasionally it presents as an acute abdomen. Antemortem detection of bowel involvement is rarely achieved and, only in cases of complicated gastrointestinal aspergillosis, the diagnosis is achieved thanks to the findings during surgery. Gastrointestinal aspergillosis should be suspected in patients with severe and prolonged neutropenia with or without pulmonary involvement in order to consider the right therapy and prompt surgery.

CONCLUSIONS The TKA implant without suction drains combined with intensified perioperative analgesia and intensive postoperative rehabilitation is a safe way to earlier recovery of the function of the operated knee, or, by extension, the lower limb. The described approach is not associated with a higher risk of perioperative complications (bleeding, healing disorders or early infections). Patients also benefit from lower blood losses. Based on the results of our study, we recommend performing the TKA surgeries routinely without drains, with perioperative analgesia and immediate postoperative joint mobilization. Key words: ...

Spontaneous rupture of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a potentially life-threatening complication. Diagnosis may be difficult, particularly in the absence of known liver cirrhosis or tumor. A 20-year-old male patient presented with progressive abdominal pain and shock. His past medical history was uneventful. Anemia, acute renal failure, and abnormal liver function test were demonstrated. Mild hepatomegaly, perihepatic and flank fluid, and multiple hypodense liver lesions suggestive of intrahepatic metastases or multifocal HCC were revealed by computed tomography. Two actively bleeding liver tumors and multiple tumors i...

Epidural motor cortex stimulation (MCS) is an established neurosurgical therapy for electrically modulating intractable pain (Tsubokawa et al., 1991; Fontaine et al., 2009). Accumulating evidence indicates that about a half of those who suffer from intractable pain will experience a benefit of pain reduction by 50% (Fontaine et al., 2009). MCS is typically performed for the upper limb, and MCS for the leg is uncommon. This is probably because subdural approaches for the lower limb (Saitoh et al., 2000; Lopez et al., 2014) are technically demanding and associated with substantial risk of brain injury, venous bleeding and death.
