CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of pregnancy-related AKI remains high in the maternal ICU setting. Septic shock, hypovolemic shock, and higher APACHE II and SOFA scores were independently associated dialysis therapy (hemodialysis in all cases). KDIGO stages 2 and 3 were less frequent than KDIGO stage 1 in patients with gestational hypertension. Norepinephrine and hemodialysis therapy were independently associated with maternal mortality in patients with pregnancy-related AKI. KDIGO stage 3 was associated with higher maternal mortality. Abstract The increased incidence of the acute kidney injury (AKI) in the elderly is becoming a disturbing reality in our days, mainly with the aging of the general population, and the predisposition of old persons to chronic diseases, drug toxicity, and infections. The aim of this study was to investigate the epidemiological, clinical, and biological features and to assess variant etiologies and outcomes of AKI in the elderly. Data were collected from the medical records of patients older than 65 years age having AKI admitted in the Internal Medicine Department of the Military Hospital of Tunis from January 2006 t...

Abstract The current study was conducted to assess the effect of hemodialysis (HD) on the status of plasma oxidants and antioxidants among patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). These parameters can have an influence on the HD process and can also be useful for follow-up of these patients. The participants of this cross-sectional study comprised 91 patients with a mean age of 51.1 ± 8.2 years on chronic HD with kt/v between 1.2 and 1.4. The etiology of ESRD in these patients was as follows: diabetes mellitus in 39, hypertension in 35, and glomerulonephritis in 17 patients. All patients were on mainte...

Conclusion Bariatric surgery is a safe and effective procedure to assist renal transplant patients in losing weight. In addition, it has proven to be effective in the management of the co-morbidities that are associated with renal failure. Our study was also able to prove that converting form an SG to a bypass in a transplant patient is a safe and feasible option.

DISCUSSION: Despite the increase in RRT services, the prevalence is lower than the Latin American average (660 pmp). Three quarters of HD and PD patients are under-dialysed. Obsolete RRT techniques are still used. The presence of Mesoamerican nephropathy influences the demographic characteristics (many young patients, two-thirds male, high prevalence in lowlands and coastlands). Abstract Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common problem seen among patients on hemodialysis (HD), but it is still a taboo subject in our country. The attention given to this sexual problem remained low, and the prevalence of ED among these patients has not been well characterized. We carried out this study in order to determine the prevalence and severity of ED in HD patients. We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study in our HD unit in March 2013. ED was evaluated using the International Index Erection Function. Thirty patients with a mean age of 49.1 years were eligible for this study. The main causes of ch...
