Association between atopic dermatitis and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in U.S. children and adults.

CONCLUSIONS: Atopic dermatitis is associated with increased odds of ADD/ADHD in adults and children. Several factors increase the risk of ADHD in adults and children with AD. PMID: 27105659 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Zhao Z, Chang MY, Frerichs I, Zhang JH, Chang HT, Gow CH, Möller K Abstract BACKGROUND: Since bronchial abnormalities often exhibit spatial non-uniformity which may be not correctly assessed by conventional global lung function measures, regional information may help to characterize the disease progress. We hypothesized that regional air trapping during mechanical ventilation could be characterized by regional end-expiratory flow (EEF) derived from electrical impedance tomography (EIT). METHODS: Twenty-five patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD grade 3 or 4) or severe...

CONCLUSIONS: Intraoperative acupuncture at HT7 and ear Shen Men did not reduce PAED scores after myringotomy tube placement. Based on these data, it is therefore unlikely that alarger study of the same design would demonstrate a significant effect of intraoperative acupuncture on emergence delirium after brief sevoflurane anesthesia. However, other acupuncture points or techniques could be considered. PMID: 31808657 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The aim of present investigation was to formulate oral mucoadhesive film of almotriptan to improve the drug delivery and desired therapeutic effects. Placebo films (F1-F8) were prepared by varying the concentrations of Proloc 15 (7.5% w/v-...

We examined our primary care birth cohort of 158,510 pediatric patients, of whom 214 patients met 2017 FPIES diagnostic criteria. We measured the influence of FPIES on developing subsequent atopic disease.ResultsPediatric FPIES incidence was between 0.17% and 0.42% depending on birth year. As in prior reports, most patients had an acute presentation (78%), and milk, soy, oat, rice, potato, and egg were common triggers. The mean age of diagnosis was 6.8 months. Atopic comorbidity was higher in patients with FPIES compared with healthy children (AD, 20.6% vs 11.7%; IgE-FA, 23.8% vs 4.0%; asthma, 26.6% vs 18.4%; AR, 28.0% vs 16.7%; P

Nocardiosis is an uncommon infection caused by ubiquitous environmental aerobic gram-positive filamentous bacteria, present in soil and water. Skin and lungs are usually the main targets of localized infections. Rarely, disseminated forms can occur in immunocompromised individuals. A 63-year-old man with a history of late-onset asthma and nasal and sinus polyposis treated with oral low-dose corticosteroid regimen presented with fever, headache, myalgia, skin erythematous plaques, and pustules. Brain MRI revealed multiple abscesses and pachymeningitis. 18F-FDG PET/CT was performed to assess the extent of the infection. Cuta...

Authors: Güler B, Özler S, Kadıoğlu N, Özkan E, Güngören MS, Çelen Ş Abstract Our aim was to investigate whether Antimullerian Hormone (AMH), complete blood count (CBC), Homeostasis model assessment (HOMA-IR), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and weight gain have any diagnostic value for the prediction of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in obese and non-obese pregnant patients. A prospective, case-control study was carried out, including 187 patients (93 obese, and 94 non-obese). CVD risk for each patient was evaluated according to the American College o...
