Lipoprotein subfractions, uric acid and cardiovascular risk in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients.

CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that higher SUA level was associated with lower prevalence of CVD among hemodialysis patients. The association between higher SUA and lower CVD risk may be explained by the fact that elevated uric acid concentration in haemodialysis population is a marker for better nutritional status and by antioxidant properties SUA.
