Editorial: Accountability in maternal and neonatal health programs

As Martin Hilber and her colleagues aptly put it in the first paper in this set of Evidence for Action (E4A) papers, “Accountability has replaced ‘political will’ as the new silver bullet to improve MNH [maternal and newborn health] in Africa” [1]. Accountability means many things to many people and occur s in many forms at many levels, from governments living up to budget promises, to pharmacists avoiding stock-outs and clinics being open when they are supposed to be.
