We present a case of a mid-sized vestibular schwannoma (T3b according to the Hannover classification) that was resected through a retrosigmoid transmeatal approach in semi-sitting position under endoscopic assistance. ConclusionComprehensive neurotological workup results in diagnoses that would go unrecognized otherwise, allowing patients to receive prompt treatment for medically important conditions, some of which may be causally related to their neurotologic complaints. However, the value of each study for routine testing of patients with neurotologic complaints remains controversial; and the evidence presented herein should help practitioners determine what studies should be included in his/her patient assessment.
Conclusion: The studies have shown hearing loss in higher frequencies, but in our study, we have observed hearing loss at speech frequency in 22.2% of patients receiving cisplatin, who also had low serum albumin levels. Periodic audiometric monitoring and serum albumin level may be helpful to provide timely intervention to prevent further hearing loss and deterioration in the quality of life.
