In children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) at risk for central nervous system (CNS) relapse, a higher dose of chemotherapy plus two extra doses of intrathecal therapy during early induction can obviate the need for prophylactic cranial irradiation, researchers say.Reuters Health Information
ConclusionsOur findings suggest that exosomes derived from GEM-resistant pancreatic cancer stem cells mediate the horizontal transfer of drug-resistant traits to GEM-sensitive pancreatic cancer cells by delivering miR-210.
AbstractPatients with advanced stage ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC) have a poor prognosis due to resistance to conventional platinum chemotherapy. Recent studies have demonstrated that PI3K/AKT/mTOR and ERK1/2 signaling pathways are involved in this chemoresistance. Progranulin (PGRN) overexpression contributes to cisplatin resistance of epithelial ovarian cancer cell lines. Also, PGRN expression is regulated by AKT/mTOR and ERK1/2 signaling pathways in different cell types. Thus, the present study was designed to identify if PGRN expression is regulated by AKT, mTOR, and ERK1/2 signaling pathways in the OCCC cell lin...
Recurrence and distant metastases were main reasons of unfavorable outcomes for patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) after surgery. The aim of this study was to describe the patterns, timing, and predictors of recurrence or metastasis in PDAC patients after curative surgery. Patients with PDAC who underwent radical pancreatectomy were included. Associations between clinicopathological and radiological characteristics and specific pattern of progression were investigated. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and Cox regression were applied to assess the prognostic factors for overall surv...
Casein kinase 1 delta (CK1δ) has a tumor-promoting role in different cancers and it is genetically amplified in a portion of human epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). CK1δ is involved in pleiotropic cellular functions such as cell proliferation, DNA damage, and migration. We specifically knocked down CK1δ by short hairpin RNA (shRNA) in human ovarian cancer cells and we performed proliferation, chemosensitivity, as well as in vitro and in vivo migration assays. CK1δ knocked-down cells displayed reduced proliferation capability both in vitro and in vivo. Nonetheless, these cells were sensitized to the f...
;o-Castro V Abstract Immunotherapy using T cells modified with chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) has been proven effective in the treatment of leukemia and lymphomas resistant to chemotherapy. Recent clinical studies have shown excellent responses of CAR-T cells in a variety of B cell tumors. However, it is important to validate in vitro activity of these cells, though different sorts of assays, which are capable of measuring the cytotoxic potential of these cells. In this chapter, it will be pointed two methods to evaluate CAR-T cell killing potential against B cell malignancy cell lines. PMID: 31707679 [PubMed - in process]
(Reuters Health) - Only about 60% of lung cancer patients get recommended treatments like chemotherapy and radiation that are linked to better survival odds, and a new study suggests rates are even lower for black and elderly patients.
The change comes after two highly publicized cases in which young epileptic patients depended on the treatments.
Atezolizumab monotherapy improved overall survival compared with platinum-based chemotherapy as a first-line treatment in patients with wild-type non –small cell lung cancer with PD-L1 expression ≥50%.
