Type 2 diabetes mellitus and risk of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma
To the Editor: Immunocompromised patients after organ transplantation have a higher incidence of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC).1 Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is an immunocompromised state2 potentially due to hyperglycemia.3 T2DM has been implicated in an increased risk of multiple malignancies, including colon, liver, pancreatic, endometrial, and kidney cancers. It is not known whether T2DM would be associated with an increased incidence of CSCC.
