Big Cities are Starting to Recover from the Great Recession, but Rural Areas are Still Having a Hard Time

The U.S. Census revealed that despite overall median household incomes seeing significant increases, and the poverty rate seeing the largest annual percentage point decrease since 1999, non-metropolitan areas have not been privy to much of this success. Non-metropolitan areas did not see significant statistical change in either category, and continue to have the lower median household incomes than their urban or suburban counterparts.
