Primary periungual leiyomyosarcoma.

We report one case of unusual topography of this tumor. An 81-year-old female patient presented with a 2 year history of a periungual tumor of the left index finger. The histopathological and immunohistochemical examination of a biopsy specimen was compatible with the diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma. There was no evidence of metastatic disease. An amputation of the index was performed. PMID: 27617944 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionsAt a tertiary musculoskeletal oncology referral clinic, primary STMs ≤ 2 cm with indeterminate imaging features should be managed cautiously despite their small size and/or superficial location.

We report an unusual case of a leiomyosarcoma arising six months post myomectomy in a 16-year old female.Graphical abstractRadiographic images (A) starting with the CT of mass on day 0 followed by the CT abdomen/pelvis of second pelvic mass leiomyosarcoma on day 185, the MRI prior to staging surgery on day 317, and finishing up with the MRI of the recurrence of malignancy. Timeline of patient events (B). Our patient initially underwent a diagnostic laparoscopy with pelvic mass biopsies showing leiomyoma which was followed by an abdominal myomectomy. She re-presented to the hospital on Day 190 and urgently underwent an expl...

ReinholdAbstractUterine leiomyomas, the most frequent benign myomatous tumors of the uterus, often cannot be distinguished from malignant uterine leiomyosarcomas using clinical criteria. Furthermore, imaging differentiation between both entities is frequently challenging due to their potential overlapping features. Because a suspected leiomyoma is often managed conservatively or with minimally invasive treatments, the misdiagno...

ConclusionsAlthough a majority of the subepithelial lesions in the cardia of the stomach are benign, 20% of the cases diagnosed with GIST have a high malignant potential. Preoperative EUS-FNB might be a useful tool for decision-making regarding the ultimate management and outcomes of these lesions.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), a gamma-1 herpesvirus, is carried as a life-long asymptomatic infection by the great majority of individuals in all human populations. Yet this seemingly innocent virus is aetiologically linked to two pre-malignant lymphoproliferative diseases (LPDs) and up to nine distinct human tumours; collectively these have a huge global impact, being responsible for some 200,000 new cases of cancer arising worldwide each year. EBV replicates in oral epithelium but persists as a latent infection within the B cell system and several of its diseases are indeed of B cell origin; these include B-LPD of the immuno...

Bladder leiomyosarcoma is the most frequent mesenchymal neoplasm of the bladder. However, the rarity of the disease and some morphological aspects could give serious problems to differential diagnosis.

AbstractSarcoma is rare and heterogenous with various subtypes having a different prognostic. Desmoid is a tumour with a local aggressiveness; GIST with KIT mutation responds massively to target treatment as IMATINIB, whereas soft tissue sarcoma and leiomyosarcoma are very aggressive with poor response to systemic therapies. Interventional radiology plays an important role in the diagnosis of sarcomas with image-guided percutaneous core needle biopsy being the most commonly used biopsy technique in the diagnosis of sarcomas. Biopsy access routes discussed with the surgeon, and skin access is tattooed. Surgery is a mainstay...

ConclusionsPET/CT, as a non-invasive method, can be preferred as the first choice in the detection of primary tumor in patients with BMUO.ResumenObjetivoEste trabajo analiza el papel de la PET/TC con 18F-FDG en la detección del tumor primario en pacientes con metástasis óseas de origen desconocido (MOOD).Material y MétodosEste estudio retrospectivo consideró al análisis histopatológico o el seguimiento clínico como datos de referencia en el diagnóstico de tumores primarios y estos resultados fueron comparados con los resultados de la PET/TC.ResultadosSe incluye...

We performed en bloc tumor resection with the right kidney and ipsilateral adrenal gland. Because of the large tumor size, we used a retroperitoneal laparoscopic approach for the posterior dissection and performed renal artery ligation. Following open conversion by a thoracoabdominal anterior approach, ...
