Role of 18F-FDG PET/CT in the detection of ovarian cancer recurrence in the setting of normal tumor markers

Conclusion Combined 18F-FDG PET/CT with contrast enhancement is more accurate than CE-CT alone in the diagnosis of ovarian tumor recurrence in patients with normal tumor markers.

We investigated the effect of the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) and peritoneal dissemination derived from 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging on prognosis in patients with recurrent ovarian cancer. We retrospectively analyzed 145 patients with suspected recurrent ovarian cancer who had undergone 18F-FDG PET/CT scans after cytoreductive surgery and chemotherapy. The degree of peritoneal spread was classified as localized (1–3 FDG foci) or diffuse (>3 FDG foci). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to determi...

Conclusionsin pre-operative evaluation of EOC patients, WB DW MRI is accurate for assessment of multiple sites and it is significantly more accurate than CT for specific unresectable sites. In our series, significant sites of disease for suboptimal cytoreduction were mesenteric carcinomatosis, mesenteric retraction and large bowel carcinomatosis.

CONCLUSION: Paclitaxel micellar (+ carboplatin) is non-inferior to Cr-EL paclitaxel (+ carboplatin) in terms of PFS and OS in the studied population. It provides a treatment option of a higher paclitaxel dose with a shorter infusion time without mandatory premedication. AbstractObjectivesIn patients with advanced ovarian, fallopian and primary peritoneal carcinoma, complete interval debulking surgery (IDS) is often performed after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) to achieve long progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). We aimed to investigate the utility of 2-deoxy-2-[F-18]fluoro-d-glucose (FDG) PET/CT in patients with these malignancies who underwent complete IDS.MethodsBetween 2009 and 2017, twenty-two patients underwent FDG PET/CT scans before and after NAC. The highest SUVmax/peak (standardized uptake value), metabolic tumor volume (MTV) and total lesion glycolysis (TL...

We describe a case involving a 67-year-old ovarian cancer patient who underwent multiple lines of chemotherapy and presented with recurrent disease and a CA-125 of 4112 U/mL. Thenceforth, she was treated with GL-ONC1 oncolytic viral therapy that was administered laparoscopically in accordance with a clinical trial. The patient subsequently received chemotherapy and during the fourth cycle, her CA-125 decreased to 99 U/mL; moreover, a computed tomography scan of the pelvis exhibited significant disease reduction. Viral therapy hypothetically confers significant promise in the treatment of recurrent ovarian cancer, especiall...

n C Abstract In March 2019, Harter et al. published the results of the LION study (Lymphadenectomy in patients with advanced ovarian neoplasms) which raises the question of pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy for patients with advanced-stage epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). These results influenced the new French recommendations published in December 2018 by the French National Cancer Institute (INCa). Thus, it no longer seems consistent to perform a systematic lymphadenectomy for patients for whom there is no argument for nodal involvement, when a macroscopic complete peritoneal cytoreductive surgery has been ...
