Authors: Pablo A, Breaud AR, Clarke W Abstract Bone marrow transplantation is used to treat particular types of cancers such as lymphoma, leukemia, and multiple myeloma. Appropriate dosing of busulfan during the preparative phase is critical for a successful allograft; if blood concentrations get too high significant liver toxicity can occur, if blood concentrations are too low, then graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) can develop. Busulfan monitoring in blood allows hospitals with the opportunity to provide individualized medicine to patients and improve overall patient outcome. Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spec...

Authors: Sun YQ, Li SQ, Zhao XS, Chang YJ Abstract INTRODUCTION: Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) remains a curable strategy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), especially for adult cases. However, leukemia relapse after allograft restricts the improvement of transplant outcomes. Measurable residual disease (MRD) has been the strongest predictor for relapse after allo-HSCT, allowing MRD-directed preemptive therapy. AREAS COVERED: This manuscript summarizes the detection of MRD in patients with ALL who undergo allo-HSCT, focusing the effects of positive pre-HSCT MRD and post-HSC...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical and imaging results of transforaminal debridement with a posterior-only approach involving placement of an interbody bone graft combined with diseased vertebral fixation for the treatment of thoracic and lumbar tuberculosis (TB) with a minimum 5-year follow-up. Sixty-five patients who presented with active thoracic and lumbar TB between October 2006 and August 2013 were retrospectively analyzed: 20 were thoracic TB (group A), 17 were thoracolumbar TB (group B), and 28 were lumbar TB (group C). The patient data, operating time, blood loss, Visual Analog Scale score, Oswe...

CONCLUSION: the increase of RI during the first weeks of the postoperative period seems to be associated with DGF and with tubular necrosis / tubular vacuolization in peri-implantation biopsies, likely related to ischemia reperfusion injury. PMID: 32459281 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

AbstractThe idea of establishing a human tissue bank in Bangladesh was started in 1985. However, in 2003, with the active cooperation of international atomic energy agency (IAEA) and Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, a tissue bank laboratory was upgraded as a unit for tissue banking and research. Due to increasing demand of allograft, this unit was transformed as an independent institute “Institute of Tissue Banking and Biomaterial Research (ITBBR)” in 2016. This is the only human tissue bank in Bangladesh, which processes human bone and amniotic membrane to provide safe and cost-effective allografts for tra...

Summary: A crooked nose is challenging for a surgeon and needs to be treated using a systematic approach. Correction of nasal deformities such as a retracted columella in a revision rhinoplasty may need additional cartilage to correct the framework. Fresh frozen cartilage graft has been used as an extended spreader graft and a columellar strut graft to correct this problem. This option prevents donor-site morbidity associated with harvesting autologous cartilage.

This study evaluated motor recovery after reconstruction of a long nerve gap using a processed nerve allograft and the influence of storage techniques. Methods: Nerve allografts were decellularized using elastase and detergents and stored at either 4° or −80°C. In 36 New Zealand White rabbits, a 3-cm peroneal nerve gap was repaired with either an autograft (group 1, control) or a cold-stored (group 2) or frozen-stored (group 3) processed nerve allograft. Nerve recovery was evaluated using longitudinal ultrasound measurements, electrophysiology (compound muscle action potentials), isometric tetanic force, w...
