This article aims to evaluate the outcomes of restoring the body height of the compressed thoracic vertebrae in patients undergoing BKP. Methods: We prospectively enrolled 65 consecutive patients with thoracic VCFs (73 vertebrae) due to osteoporosis who were treated with BKP between June 2018 and May 2019. Results: A trocar was inserted through the pedicle in 84.9% (62/73) and beside the pedicle in 15.1% (11/73). The mean amount of mixed cement injected was 4.1 ± 1.1 mL (range, 1.5-7 mL). Cement leakage was radiographically confirmed in 30.8% of 65 patients. Among patients with complications caused by cement...

Authors: Kwon JW, Ha JW, Lee TS, Moon SH, Lee HM, Park Y Abstract Backgroud: To compare the risk of low back pain (LBP) and related spinal diseases between smokers (exposure group) and nonsmokers (non-exposure group). No large registry study has so far investigated the association between smoking and LBP-related spinal diseases such as intervertebral disc disease, spinal stenosis, spinal instability, and spondylolisthesis. Methods: A random sample was taken from the Korean National Health Insurance Research Database. In total, 204,066 men (160,105 smokers, 43,961 nonsmokers) who were followed up between 2002 an...

I know, I know, I know 8Gy in 1. I'm talking sole site of metastatic disease in an otherwise high performing patient. Not just pain relief. Thinking of switching to fractionated from single fraction SRS, mainly due to compression fracture risk. Anyone have a recipe they feel strongly about?

Authors: Kavukcu E, Akdeniz M Abstract Sacral stress fractures are rare injuries among professional and amateur athletes and are considered to be an uncommon source of low back pain. These type of fractures are mainly seen in competitive, high-impact sports, most commonly in long-distance runners. Sacral stress fractures are usually overlooked in young patients presenting with low back pain without any trauma history. Diagnosis of sacral stress fractures is often delayed because the history and physical examination of these patients are not specific and conventional radiographic images are frequently inadequate. A ...

AbstractAlthough 25% of patients with end-stage knee osteoarthritis (OA) have reported a fall, there is limited information about risk factors for falling in patients awaiting total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The purpose of this study was to identify clinical and functional measures related to fall risk. A total of 259 participants awaiting TKA for OA participated in this secondary cross-sectional study. Participants were divided into fallers and non-fallers based on falling history in the prior 6  months. Clinical measures (hip and knee pain, neck and low back pain (LBP), knee range of motion, and quadriceps strength) ...

Conclusions: Musculoskeletal disorders symptoms are highly prevalent in musicians. The main risk factors related to musculoskeletal disorders symptoms were gender (being female), overweight, obesity, and spending playing more than 14 h a week practicing. This study highlights the need to provide strategies to prevent occupational disabilities among musicians. Further studies are needed to analyse the prevalence of pain in the musician using other sampling methods.
