Eukaryotic elongation factor 1-beta interacts with the 5 ′ untranslated region of the M gene of Nipah virus to promote mRNA translation

In this study, we investigated the functions of the 5 ′ UTRs and found that the 5′ UTR of the M gene upregulated the translation of a reporter gene. Using an RNA pull-down assay, we showed that eukaryotic elongation factor 1-beta (EEF1B2) interacts with nucleotides 81–100 of the M 5′ UTR and specifically enhances its translation efficiency. Our results suggest that the M 5′ UTR promotes the production of M protein and viral budding by recruiting EEF1B2.
