Police officers gunned down while protecting vaccination workers in Pakistan

The polio vaccination drive in Pakistan has seen numerous obstacles over the years which have all resulted in a failure of complete polio eradication from the country. Parental refusal to administer vaccine, religious misconceptions, security lapses for polio workers and ineffective vaccines have all cumulatively impeded the success of the vaccination drive [1 –3]. Previously, only polio vaccine workers have been targeted by militant groups but in recent years there has been a paradigm shift in the strategy of the militants towards law enforcement agencies.
