More money allocated to fight growing Zika concerns in Greater New Orleans

At a press conference in New Orleans, Dr. Jeff Elder with the New Orleans Health Department confirmed there are still no locally-transmitted cases of the Zika virus in Louisiana. In Miami-Dade County, Florida, 15 people have been infected by mosquitoes in one neighborhood there. Elder said there are 17 cases of the virus confirmed in the state of Louisiana. All were infected out of state. In Orleans Parish, there are two travel-related cases and seven more in the metropolitan area. But New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said he is operating with the mindset that it is just a matter of time before the virus is transmitted locally in the New Orleans region.
