Early development of podocyte injury independent of hyperglycemia and elevations in arterial pressure in non-diabetic obese Dahl SS leptin receptor mutant rats. At 6 weeks of age, body weight was 35% higher in the SSLepRmutant strain compared to SSWT rats and remained elevated throughout the entire study. The SSLepRmutant strain exhibited impaired glucose tolerance and increased plasma insulin levels at 6 weeks of age suggesting insulin resistance while SSWT rats did not. However, blood glucose levels were normal throughout the course of the study. Systolic arterial pressure (SAP) was similar between the two strains from 6-10 weeks of age. However, by 18 weeks of age, the development of hypertension was more severe in the SSLepRmutant strain compared to SSWT rats (201±10 vs. 155±3 mmHg, respectively). In this study, we investigated the antihypertensive effect and underlying mechanisms of P. asiatica L. seeds extract (PASE) in spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR). Male SHRs were treated with 2.5 mg/kg of fosinopril (FOS) and 400 mg/kg of PASE orally per day for once or 12 weeks. Conclusion: Diabetes was found to be a bigger cause (62.3%) of CKD than what has been reported thus far in India. At presentation association of diabetic-CKD with HT was recorded higher (78.7%) in India. Hence use of the syndrome "DHKD", (complex of diabetes, hypertension and kidney disease) is justifiable.
