Impact of lifestyle interventions on depressive symptoms in individuals at-risk of, or with, type 2 diabetes mellitus: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Depression affects one in four individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The impact of T2DM lifestyle interventions on depression is unclear. The aim of this analysis was to examine the influence of lifestyle interventions on depressive symptoms scores in individuals at-risk of or with T2DM.

In conclusion, it remains unclear if brain-specific regional and temporal changes occur in the expression of the different APP variants during AD progression. Since APP is also found in blood cells, assessing the changes in APP mRNA expression in peripheral blood cells from AD patients has been considering an alternative. However, again the quantification of APP mRNA in peripheral blood cells has generated controversial results. Brain APP protein has been analyzed in only a few studies, probably as it is difficult to interpret the complex pattern of APP variants and fragments. We previously characterized the soluabl...

Authors: Al-Abdwani R Abstract Metformin is a widely used biguanide for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Metformin-induced lactic acidosis (MALA) is a rare but potentially fatal entity in the pediatric age group, seen mainly in suicide attempts in adolescents. MALA has not yet been reported in younger patients or pediatric patients taking regular therapeutic doses. Here, we report a three-year-old female receiving therapeutic metformin who developed MALA. MALA should be suspected in patients with unexplained lactic acidosis and on regular metformin, especially in the setting of renal impairment or hypoxic...

Nature Reviews Urology, Published online: 17 September 2020; doi:10.1038/s41585-020-00376-7Disruption of the circadian clock has been associated with pathological conditions including obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, cancer, depression and neurodegenerative diseases. Disturbed sleep patterns have now been associated with reduced erectile function. The mechanisms behind this effect are unclear but could include hypoxia signalling and low testosterone.

AbstractIntroductionAlthough the risk of dementia among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is double that of those without T2DM, the mechanism remains to be elucidated and the glycemic goal to prevent progression of cognitive impairment is unclear. Results from cross-sectional studies suggest that glucose fluctuations are associated with impairment of cognitive function among T2DM patients. Therefore, the aim of the longitudinal study described here is to evaluate the relationships between glucose fluctuation indexes assessed by continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and cognitive function among elderly patients wi...

CONCLUSION: Measurement of ambulatory medical care of an elderly population based on health claims data is feasible and shows differences in care processes of older and care-dependent individuals if place of residency and level of care-dependency are considered. Further development of the QIs explored should incorporate a thorough methodical foundation, particularly with regard to risk adjustment. In addition, the contribution of individual and contextual factors on QIs remains to be examined with a view to the community-dwelling care-dependent elderly and their ongoing residency in this setting. Vujović S Abstract A growing number of patients with adrenal incidentalomas and subclinical Cushing's syndrome (SCS) led to a growing number of different guidelines, diagnostic and treatment recommendations. Excess cortisol secretion in patients with SCS is associated with a number of comorbidities, such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity, which in long-term increase mortality of these patients. Subtle cortisol secretion effects also bone health, quality of life and cause depression, but due to the unapparent clinical features, patients with SCS are often in risk between over and...
