Mood, Disability, and Quality of Life among a Subgroup of Rheumatoid Arthritis Individuals with Experiential Avoidance and Anxiety Sensitivity. Pain Res Manag. 2016;2016:7241856 Authors: Mehta S, Rice D, Janzen S, Pope JE, Harth M, Shapiro AP, Teasell RW Abstract Objective. The current study aimed to identify and characterize distinct RA subgroups based on their level of EA and AS and compares the difference among the subgroups in mood, disability, and quality of life. Methods. Individuals with chronic pain for at least 3 months were recruited from an academic rheumatoid clinic. Participants were assessed for demographic, psychosocial, and personality measures. A two-step cluster analysis was conducted to identify distinct subgroups of patients. Differences in clinical outcomes were compared using the Multivariate ANOVA based on cluster membership. Results. From a total of 223 participants, three distinct subgroups were formed based on cluster analysis. Cluster 1 (N = 78) included those with low levels of both EA and AS. Cluster 2 (N = 81) consisted of individuals with moderate levels of EA and low levels AS. Cluster 3 (N = 64) included those with moderate levels of EA and high AS. Compared to those in Cluster 1, those in Cluster 3 had significantly higher levels of mood impairment and disability and lower quality of life (p

Authors: Abbassy AA, Trebinjac S, Kotb N Abstract Knee osteoarthritis is a degenerative "wear and tear" disorder affecting mainly population over 50 years old. It can also present in younger people, especially after an injury or as a part of other diseases. While many therapeutic options exist for knee osteoarthritis, none of them has the potential to cure this condition. Cellular Matrix represents a combination of natural non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid (HA), thixotropic cell separation gel, and sodium citrate anticoagulant solution. A combination of Cellular Matrix with autologous platelet-rich plasma (...

Conclusions: There are several ongoing efforts to use novel ablative therapies directed towards the brain. The recent development of techniques that allow for precise targeting, accurate delivery of thermal doses and real-time visualization of induced tissue damage during the procedure have resulted in novel techniques for cerebral ablation such as magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound or laser interstitial thermal therapy. However, older techniques such as radiofrequency thermal ablation or stereotactic radiosurgery still have a pivotal role in the management of a variety of neurological disorders. PMID: 315371...

Authors: Tomasian A, Jennings JW Abstract Minimally invasive percutaneous thermal ablation of osseous metastases has proved safe and effective in management of selected patients with bone metastatic disease. These procedures have become a part of the treatment algorithm for certain subgroup of patients with osseous metastases to achieve pain palliation and/or local tumor control. This review details the armamentarium available and the most recent advances in minimally invasive, percutaneous image-guided thermal ablation for management of osseous metastases. CONCLUSIONS: Depression, disability and sleep disturbance appear to be the main factors explaining fatigue in patients with RA. Disease activity, pain, and personality seem to play only a secondary role, extroversion being the only personality trait associated with fatigue. These findings foster a shift in the paradigm of care towards a more holistic management of fatigue, integrating adjunctive therapies beyond measures targeted solely at disease remission. The objective of this study is to describe aspects of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in Mexican patients with antineutrophil cytoplasmic-associated vasculitis (AAV). Cross-sectional comparison study includes patients with established AAV and a comparison group with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), chronic kidney disease (CKD), and healthy subjects. Variables considered were: socio-demographic data, comorbidities, laboratory, disease activity, damage, and Physician ’s and Patient’s Global Assessment (PhGA and PtGA). The following measurements were done: Pittsburg sleep quality index, Multidimesional Fatigue In...

In conclusion, documentation is important, a critical part of advocacy and the development process at the larger scale. It isn't just words, but rather a vital structural flow of information from one part of the larger community to another, necessary to sustain progress in any complex field. We would all do well to remember this - and to see that building this documentation is an activity in which we can all pitch in to help. CONCLUSIONS: The quality of the evidence examining physical activity and exercise for chronic pain is low. This is largely due to small sample sizes and potentially underpowered studies. A number of studies had adequately long interventions, but planned follow-up was limited to less than one year in all but six reviews. There were some favourable effects in reduction in pain severity and improved physical function, though these were mostly of small-to-moderate effect, and were not consistent across the reviews. There were variable effects for psychological function and quality of life. The available evidence suggests physica...

Growing up a musically-obsessed child in the 80's, Daryl Hall was one of my biggest inspirations. A masterful, inventive songwriter with an ocean of soul, he set me on the path to being an artist, to never waste a word, and to sing because I mean it. With six number ones and five additional top ten hits throughout the 70's and 80's Daryl Hall and John Oates are the number one duo in music history. Still at the top of his game at 69 years old, Daryl has won legions of new fans with his hit MTV Live show Live From Daryl's House. In February of 2015, at my very sickest from chronic Lyme and Bartonella, after it was missed b...
