The objective of this study was to determine the effects of date vinegar made from date pulp and pits on the serum lipid profile and inflammatory biomarkers of mildly hypercholesterolemic adults. Seventy-six subjects with mildly raised total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol were enrolled. Participants ingested 30 mL of either date vinegar or placebo daily together with their normal diets. Plasma lipids, inflammatory biomarkers, carotenoids, potassium, folic acid, urea and creatinine were measured at baseline after 4 weeks and after treatment. These results suggest that the date vinegar improved several serum lipid pr...

Despite being responsible for sustaining a multi-billion dollar drug franchise, LDL cholesterol is a crude, outdated, unreliable, nearly useless marker for cardiovascular risk. You can obtain superior results without drugs but will need to know a little something about this thing called LDL cholesterol, as well as advanced lipoprotein analysis to obtain REAL insight into cardiovascular risk. The post The fictions of LDL cholesterol appeared first on Dr. William Davis.

Abstract In fingerprint recognition, besides the physical shape information afforded by fingerprint enhancement techniques (FET), in recent years, more and more efforts are focused on researching the chemical composition of a fingerprint residue. In this work, electrospray deposition method was elaborately used to softly and homogenously deposit the physical enhancers of FET, TiO2 nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs), onto fingerprints. The results showed that this type of deposition was nondestructive to the fingerprint morphology and provided the physical shape information containing all level features. Concurrently, the Ti...

Authors: Yu TY, Jin SM, Jee JH, Bae JC, Lee MK, Kim JH Abstract BACKGROUND: It has not been determined whether changes in serum uric acid (SUA) level are associated with incident metabolic syndrome (MetS). The aim of the current study was to investigate the relationship between changes in SUA level and development of MetS in a large number of subjects. METHODS: In total, 13,057 subjects participating in a medical health check-up program without a diagnosis of MetS at baseline were enrolled. Cox proportional hazards models were used to test the independent association of percent changes in SUA level with develop...

This study provides a possible reason why genes carrying health risks have persisted in human populations. The second found evidence for multiple variants in genes related to ageing that exhibited antagonistic pleiotropic effects. They found higher risk allele frequencies with large effect sizes for late-onset diseases (relative to early-onset diseases) and an excess of variants with antagonistic effects expressed through early and late life diseases. There also exists other recent tangible evidence of antagonistic pleiotropy in specific human genes. The SPATA31 gene has been found under strong positive genomic sele...
