Honey bees are valuable for agriculture economy and important contributes to ecosystem services due to that they are the most efficient and economic pollinators. However honeybees are facing huge challenges due to degradation of vegetation, and due to honeybee pests and diseases. Apis mellifera syriaca exhibits a high degree of tolerance to pests and pathogens including varroa mites. This native honey bee subspecies of Jordan and most of the Levant region is expresses behavioral adaptations to high temperature and dry seasons typical of the region. Using the next‐generation sequencing (NGS) technology some genetic factors identified which are possibly contributing toward mite resistance and other favorable traits (see pages 579–590).
