Today's teenagers could become prematurely hearing-impaired, study warns
According a recent study, teenagers are increasingly experiencing tinnitus, often a symptom of hearing loss, as a result of using ear buds to listen to music for long periods every day, as well as frequenting very noisy places like nightclubs, discos and rock concerts. The researchers observed that most of the teenagers who took part in the study reported risky listening habits, and those who reported experiencing tinnitus displayed less tolerance of loud sounds.

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) is defined as a hearing loss of 30 dBHL or more in three consecutive frequency ranges within 72 hours as measured by pure tone audiometry [1,2]. The prevalence of SSNHL varies by region with an estimated worldwide prevalence of 5~20 cases/100,000 people . Unilateral hearing loss, tinnitus, aural fullness, and vertigo are the most common symptoms of SSNHL . SSNHL with these symptoms ca n have a devastating effect on quality of life and social functions, which suggests that a multidisciplinary (psychological, social, and medical) approach should be undertaken for these patients .

DISCUSSION: A large percentage of workers exposed to noisy workplaces were vulnerable because hearing protection was neither required nor routinely used. CONCLUSIONS In this retrospective review, sectioning of the NI produced no major complications, such as permanent facial weakness or deafness, and was effective for patients when performed in addition to other procedures. After sectioning of the NI, patients experienced 4.8 years pain free and experienced 6.2 years of less pain than before surgery. Alone, sectioning of the NI was not effective. The pathophysiology of NIN is not entirely understood. It appears that neurovascular compression plays only a minor role in the syndrome and there is a high degree of overlap with TN. Conclusion: Azithromycin short-term use was not associated with an increased risk of SNHL in comparison to amoxicillin ± clavulanate.

Conclusion: Findings of this study further indicate that the left ear is more susceptible to noise exposure compared with the right ear.
Conclusions: Patients with MEANTs can present with nonspecific symptomatology that overlaps with more commonly encountered middle ear lesions. MEANT exhibits a proclivity for recurrence according to T-stage and long-term clinical follow up is necessary, particularly for advanced stage tumors.
