ConclusionsOverexpression of JAB1 promoted the proliferation, migration, and invasion of ESCC cells, and was significantly associated with poor prognosis of ESCC patients. Therefore, JAB1 could be considered as a promising prognostic factor and a possible target for the specific therapy of ESCC.Key pointsIn this study, we found that JAB1 was highly overexpressed in cancer tissues, which could influence the malignant behavior of ESCC cells, and was significantly associated with poor prognosis of ESCC patients.

AbstractBackgroundMetachronous cancer rate in the pharynx is high before and after the treatment of esophageal cancer. Endoscopic observation is difficult in the pharynx especially in the postcricoid area. Pharyngeal cancer in the postcricoid area has been often found in advanced stage. Valsalva maneuver has been reported to improve the visibility.MethodsFrom May 2017 we introduced a dedicated mouthpiece to conduct Valsalva maneuver. One hundred consecutive patients who had been observed throughout the pharynx by one endoscopist were enrolled. A total of 200 image files before and after introduction were made and reviewed ...

Publication date: May 2020Source: Clinica Chimica Acta, Volume 504Author(s): Damian Jacenik, Jakub FichnaAbstractChemerin is a multifunctional protein involved among others in adipogenesis, angiogenesis and lipid as well as glucose metabolism. Chemerin is an essential factor in promotion of chemotaxis of numerous immune cell types and plays an important role in several pathophysiologic conditions. Chemerin receptors are present on monocytes/macrophages, T cells, natural killer and dendritic cells as well as neutrophils. However, the role of chemerin and chemerin receptors in immune response and gastrointestinal diseases is...

SummaryBackgroundLymph node status is regarded as an important factor in the prognosis of oesophageal cancer. T1 oesophageal adenocarcinoma management has to include endoscopic management as part of the algorithm. We reviewed the literature to assess the true risk of lymph node metastasis in patients with T1 oesophageal adenocarcinoma.MethodsMedline, Embase, PubMed and Cochrane where searched for manuscripts in English reviewing lymph node metastasis in superficial (T1) oesophageal adenocarcinoma. The main outcome was probability of lymph node metastasis in T1a and T1b oesophageal adenocarcinoma. Secondary outcome was the ...

In this study, we observe that the expression of miR-574-5p is not only increased in human ESCC tissues but also remarkably increased in cell lines correlates with ZNF70. In vitro, we explored the role of miR-574-5p in ESCC progression via transfection of the miR-574-5p inhibitor into ECA-109 cells. The results show miR-574-5p serve as a tumor promoter regulating cells proliferation and apoptosis in ESCC through mitochondrial-mediated reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and MAPK pathways. Furthermore, ZNF70 has been proved to as a functional target for miR-574-5p to regulate cells poliferation and apoptosis. In summar...

We report the safety and effectiveness of this technique.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective analysis of 16 consecutive patients who employed this technique from January 2015 to March 2018. The radioactive feeding tube was made by binding the125I seed chain on the feeding tube. Under fluoroscopic guidance, the tube was inserted into the obstructed esophagus, with the seed chain crossing over the segment of malignant esophageal obstruction. Technical success rate, dysphagia score, procedure time and complications were analyzed. Kaplan –Meier analysis was used to analyze the survival time.ResultsThe radioactive feeding...

CONCLUSIONS: SSRS is a safe and effective treatment option with excellent LC and minimal toxicity for patients with metastatic thyroid cancer. No association with increased radiation dose or BED was found, suggesting that such patients can be effectively treated with reduced dose regimens. PMID: 32059183 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Bednarski In western Africa ethnomedicine, Lannea barteri Oliv. (Anacardiaceae) is believed to have activity against gastrointestinal, neurological and endocrine diseases. Previous studies on this plant have revealed antimicrobial, anticholinestrase, anticonvulsant, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. However, the anticancer potential of L. barteri has not been studied to date. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anticancer potential of hot and cold extracts and silica gel column chromatographic fractions of L. barteri leaf and stem bark. The extracts and fractions were tested for anticancer activity b...

ConclusionThe gold standard of TSFT treatment is complete surgical resection. VATS is safe and reliable for treating selected TSFT patients. Aggressive surgical resection could be underwent in such patients of local recurrence or solitary metastatic tumor. A long-term follow-up is necessary due to the risk of recurrence.
