Limited impact of setup and range uncertainties, breathing motion and interplay effects in robustly optimized intensity modulated proton therapy for stage III non-small cell lung cancer
The effectiveness of robustly optimized intensity modulated proton therapy (IMPT) against setup and range uncertainties, breathing motion, and interplay effects was investigated for treatment plans of advanced stage non-small cell lung cancer. Our study demonstrated that IMPT with robust optimization is a promising technique to limit the impact of these effects on target coverage and dose homogeneity, with minimal effect on organ at risk dose parameters.
