Effects of hypotension and/or hypocapnia during sevoflurane anesthesia on perfusion and metabolites in the developing brain of piglets—a blinded randomized study

ConclusionsThe combination of HT and HC during sevoflurane anesthesia resulted in alteration of cerebral perfusion with signs of neuronal dysfunction and early neuronal ischemia. HT and HC alone also resulted in signs of metabolic disturbances despite the absence of detectable cerebral perfusion alterations.

CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Results provided baseline information about diffusion and perfusion characteristics of the prostate gland in healthy sexually intact adult dogs. Additional studies with dogs of various ages and breeds, with and without abnormalities of the prostate gland, will be necessary to validate these findings and investigate clinical applications. The most commonly used animal model of these diseases is experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). We previously reported that evoked pain, such as mechanical allodynia, was improved by an anti-IL-6 receptor antibod...

This study indicated that switch from H2 blockers to PPIs reduced delirium and, thus, providing an appropriate strategy to combat drug-induced delirium using antiulcer drugs (Fujii et al., 2012). The ventrolateral preoptic nucleus is a sleep-promoting nucleus located in the basal forebrain. A commonly used intravenous anesthetic, propofol, had been reported to induce sleep and augment the firing rate of neurons in ventrolateral GABAergic preoptic nucleus, but the underlining mechanism is yet to be clearly determined. Interestingly, the propofol-induced inhibition of inhibitory postsynaptic currents on noradrenalin-inhibite...

AbstractThe purpose of the study was to validate by histopathology, contrast enhanced cine steady-state free precession and T2-weighted CMR for the assessment of ischemic myocardial area-at-risk (AAR) in the presence of microvascular obstruction (MVO). Eleven anesthetized pigs underwent CMR 7 to 10 days post infarction. The area-at-risk was measured from T2-weighted fast spin echo (T2-STIR) and contrast-enhanced steady-state free precession magnetic resonance imaging (CE-SSFP) images using semi-automated algorithms based on a priori knowledge of perfusion territory. Also, late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) was performed to ...

CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE Results provided preliminary baseline information about the diffusion and perfusion characteristics of structures in the cranial aspect of the abdomen of healthy adult male cats. Additional studies of cats of different sex and age groups as well as with and without cranial abdominal pathological conditions are necessary to validate and refine these findings. In conclusion, although a low MAP (≤60 mmHg) indicated impeded abdominal perfusion in experimental sepsis, it did not predict inflammation, nor did other global measures of circulation. Decreased abdominal perfusion predicted partially inflammation but intestine, occupying most of the abdomen, and liver, were also affected by intra-abdominal pressure. ConclusionMultiparametric pulmonary MRI is feasible in lung allografts within an EVLP system. Oxygen-enhanced imaging seems to be a promising marker for ischemic injury, enabling detection of affected lung segments prior to transplantation.

We present here the experience of one year of practice in our center (100 examinations) on adult and pediatric populations (from 6 weeks to 43 years, from 4.6 kg to 85 kg). This modality has been applied as a remedial imaging in ambiguous situations (68% of congenital pathology, 23% of valvulopathy, 9% of large vessel pathology) where conventional imaging modalities have proved non-contributory.The feasibility of this examination was excellent, since only 3 examinations were considered uninterpretable due to a lack of perfusion of gadolinium. All the pediatric population examinations could be performed in a satis...
