We reported the surgical repair of bilateral CDH in a male infant aged 6 weeks. The patient had herniation of the liver on the right side with HPF in association with anomalous drainage of the right pulmonary vein into the hepatic vein and ventricular septal defect. We approached both sides thoracoscopically; however, the right side required a subcostal incision. We separated the liver from the right lower lung lobe laterally using electrocautery, and the defect was closed with a mesh. The medial portion was left intact to avoid injury of the anomalous pulmonary venous drainage. After 2 weeks, the patients had a surgi...

It is always pleasant to see new efforts to produce longevity-focused interest sites and publications; Longevity.Technology is a recent example, here publishing an interview with Aubrey de Grey of the SENS Research Foundation that touches on recent developments in the field of rejuvenation research. There have been many such news organization initiatives over the past ten to fifteen years, and all too few of them lasted. Hopefully that will change now that an industry of rejuvenation is forming, beginning with the development of senolytic therapies, and ever greater degrees of funding and attention are directed towards thi...

SmithAbstractInadvertent arterial placement of central venous catheters carries serious sequelae, including pseudoaneurysm development and stroke. Although numerous strategies for therapeutic repair after arterial injury have been employed, no treatment provides a definitive standard of care. All articles published between January 2000 and July 2018 involving the placement of central venous catheters in the brachiocephalic or subclavian arteries, carotid artery, ...

ConclusionsThis new self-expanding covered stent provides good short-term patency in chimneys, branches, or fenestrations. Larger series with long-term follow-up are required to determine if the stent can sustain the mechanical stress to which it will be submitted in these repairs.

Graziani Maria Teresa Voso Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are highly heterogeneous myeloid diseases, characterized by frequent genetic/chromosomal aberrations. Olaparib is a potent, orally bioavailable poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1) inhibitor with acceptable toxicity profile, designed as targeted therapy for DNA repair defective tumors. Here, we investigated olaparib activity in primary cultures of bone marrow mononuclear cells collected from patients with MDS (n = 28). A single treatment with olaparib induced cytotoxic effects in most samples, with median IC50 of 5.4 µM (2.0–24.8 &mi...

ConclusionsPRDR radiation therapy with capecitabine were well tolerated and effective method for treating patients with recurrent breast cancer. Prospective studies are necessary to compare side effects and efficacy with conventional dose rate re-irradiation, as well as, to evaluate the potential role for capecitabine in the recurrent setting.

In this study, researchers studied 438,952 participants in the UK Biobank, who had a total of 24,980 major coronary events - defined as the first occurrence of non-fatal heart attack, ischaemic stroke, or death due to coronary heart disease. They used an approach called Mendelian randomisation, which uses naturally occurring genetic differences to randomly divide the participants into groups, mimicking the effects of running a clinical trial. People with genes associated with lower blood pressure, lower LDL cholesterol, and a combination of both were put into different groups, and compared against those without thes...
