Survival of the fittest sperm: How new technology may help infertile couples

Of the millions of sperm that enter the vagina, only about 10 make it to the egg, demonstrating how rigorous the natural sperm selection process really is. So how is it possible to select only the best sperm for assisted reproductive technologies like in vitro fertilization? That's what a researcher is aiming to do with a new device that can quickly, easily and cost effectively select the healthiest sperm without causing DNA damage.

ConclusionsIn a pronatalist culture that sanctifies childbirth, infertility is a source of significant distress. Professionals ’ awareness of the culturally adapted religious coping strategies utilized by their clients may help them conduct culturally sensitive intervention, which may greatly help to enhance emotional adjustment. Future research is recommended to develop instruments that measure culturally adapted strateg ies and their influence on emotional adjustment over time, in different states of health while comparing different cultures.

ConclusionsThe NPS-ASP appears to be a good parameter to assess sperm function and would be a useful tool to detect chromosomal translocations. Four redundant regions have been identified on four chromosomes, suggesting that they may contain genes of interest to study sperm functions.
