CONCLUSION: Patients are at a high risk of EMS-ED after dialysis initiation. Frailty severity (at the time of dialysis initiation) is a strong predictor of first and recurrent EMS-ED and this may be important to guide informed decision making and resource planning for dialysis patients who require EMS. We present a case of CAA-ri in a subject already on immunosuppressive therapy after orthotopic heart transplantation (OHT). A 57-year-old man 8 months post-OHT for sarcoid cardiomyopathy developed headaches and staring spells while hospitalized for disseminated mycobacterial infection. His brain MRI revealed bi-hemispheric T2-weighted fluid-attenuated inversion recovery white matter hyperintensities and widespread microhemorrhages. Two weeks later, he developed gait ataxia and alterations in mental status, and repeat brain MRI showed more extensive confluent white matter hyperintensities. Leptomeningeal and cortex biopsy r...

AbstractThis observational study aimed to evaluate the prognostic significance of interim and final18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT) responses to upfront autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) in patients with peripheral T cell lymphomas (PTCLs). A total of 118 patients, from two independent institutions, with newly diagnosed PTCLs were enrolled, and 96 of them were evaluated. PET/CT was assessed at diagnosis, and during and after the primary treatment. Clinical outcomes of interim and final PET/CT were compared between transplanted and non-transplanted patients. The resp...

Researchers have made considerable progress in the construction of small, functional tissue sections called organoids over the past decade, enabled by a combination of better understanding the mechanisms involved in regeneration and embryonic development of tissues, advances in 3-D bioprinting, guidance of cell behavior via appropriate provision of signal molecules, and the generation of environments that mimic an existing tissue environment. Every tissue requires its own specific recipe of signals and environment in order to form a functional organoid, but researchers have demonstrated the manufacture of organoids for liv...

Publication date: Available online 5 December 2019Source: American Journal of Kidney DiseasesAuthor(s): Sanjay Kulkarni, Guo Wei, Wei Jiang, Licia A. Lopez, Chirag R. Parikh, Isaac E. HallRationale &ObjectiveThere may be important transplant-related differences between right and left kidneys, including logistical/surgical considerations about vessel length for the right compared to the left kidney from the same donor. Because US centers choose between the right and left kidney when their recipient is ranked higher on a “match-run,” we sought to determine whether deceased-donor right kidneys have had worse p...

ConclusionsWith regard to KT patients and sterile wound dressing fixation with non-sterile bandages versus the use of autoclaved bandages, fixation with autoclaved bandages proved to be effective for cutaneous mucormycosis outbreak control and prevention in our institution.

Abstract Severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) are important in postmarketing drug safety because SCAR patients were highest in the adverse drug reaction relief system of Japan. The SCAR symptoms of Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) include high fever, severe mucosal impairment, and epidermal necrosis-induced erosions and blisters. Approximately 600 cases of SJS and 300 cases of TEN are reported annually in Japan. Many suspected drugs such as acetaminophen, lamotrigine, allopurinol, and carbamazepine have been reported. Over the last 15 years, an association between human leu...

Authors: Wu S, Zhang W, Shen D, Lu J, Zhao L Abstract Phospholipase C (PLC) is a membrane-associated enzyme that regulates several cellular behaviors including cell motility, growth, transformation and differentiation. PLC is involved in cancer migration, invasion and drug resistance. However, the expression status and prognostic role of PLCB4 in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) remain unclear. In the present study, the complete clinical and mRNA expression data of 285 pediatric patients with de novo AML were obtained from the Therapeutically Available Research to Generate Effective Treatments database. The association...
