Nevoid hyperkeratosis of the nipple and the areola.

Nevoid hyperkeratosis of the nipple and the areola. Dermatol Online J. 2016;22(2) Authors: Alonso-Corral MJ, Garrido-Colmenero C, Martinez-Ortiz F, Ruiz-Villaverde R Abstract A 25-year-old woman presented to our dermatology unit with progressive diffuse thickening of the both areolas. A skin biopsy was taken from the right areola showing irregular filiform acanthosis with elongation and anastomosis of rete ridges, irregular orthokeratotic hyperkeratosis, pseudocyst formation, and hyperpigmentation of the basal layer. The cause of nevoid hyperkeratosis of the nipple and areola is unknown. Eighty percent of cases occur in women and are often manifested during puberty or pregnancy. The disease may also occur in men receiving hormonal therapy. There is no uniformly effective treatment. Dermatologists, gynecologists, and general practitioners have an important part to play in recognizing this condition that may be underdiagnosed because of lack of awareness. ConclusionsAlthough maternal Tdap and influenza vaccination coverage increased substantially from 2010 to 2017 among large, geographically diverse U.S. cohorts, coverage remained suboptimal, potentially putting newborns at risk of pertussis and influenza. Strategies to increase maternal vaccination coverage could target women identified to have a reduced likelihood of vaccination: those who are younger, black, residing in rural areas, with multiple gestation, and a prepregnancy inpatient admission.

It’s now the fifth straight day that residents in around 15,000 Newark, N.J. homes are being given bottled water for drinking and cooking, as city authorities and federal officials grapple with high levels of lead in their water supply. A federal judge is now determining whether or not the city has to expand the distribution of bottled water to more parts of the city. “This is a slap in the face to the residents of the city of Newark,” resident Donna Jackson told ABC7. “We are now in panic mode because the feds had to come in to tell us to stop drinking the water.” Here’s what you need ...

Authors: Petralia MC, Mazzon E, Fagone P, Falzone L, Bramanti P, Nicoletti F, Basile MS Abstract Post-partum depression (PPD) occurs in approximately 20% of women usually early following child delivery. PPD represents an important unmet medical need as it is frequently underdiagnosed and, as the neurobiology of the disease is limitedly known, no pathogenic-tailored approach is available and only symptomatic medications are used. In the present study, we carried out a DNA microarray analysis to evaluate the fluctuation of cytokines, cytokine receptors and chemokines during the preconception period, the 1st and 3th t...

Authors: Li X, Fang Y Abstract Preeclampsia is a complication of pregnancy characterized by new-onset hypertension and proteinuria of gestation, with serious consequences for mother and infant. Although a vast amount of research has been performed on the pathogenesis of preeclampsia, the underlying mechanisms of this multisystemic disease have remained to be fully elucidated. Data were retrieved from Gene Expression Omnibus database GSE40182 dataset. After data preprocessing, differentially expressed genes of placental cells cultured in vitro from preeclampsia and normal pregnancy were determined and subjected to K...

Authors: Zhang Z, Xu H, Liu X, Li P, Du W, Han Q Abstract The present study aimed to evaluate changes of pregnancy-associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH). A total of 105 cases (observation group) with complete data that underwent delivery and suffered from PIH in The Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from February 2015 to February 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. The observation group was further divided into the mild observation and severe observation groups according to severity degree of the disease. Another 65 ...

In this study, we assessed the effects of pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) and gestational weight gain (GWG) on the pregnancy outcomes of women of advanced age using a back-propagation (BP) artificial neural network. We conducted a retrospective analysis on postpartum and hospital delivery data from 1,015 women of advanced maternal age (AMA) hospitalized at the Fujian Provincial Maternity and Children's Hospital from January to June, 2017. Pre-pregnancy overweight was found to increase the incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), hypertensive disorders complicating pregnancy (HDCP) and fetal macrosomia. In addi...
