Publication date: April 2020Source: Journal of Functional Foods, Volume 67Author(s): Gzona Bajraktari, Johanna WeissAbstractThe flavone diosmin is part of everyday nutrition but also marketed as medicine or nutritional supplement against various diseases. Although the manufacturers declare safe administration, several data indicate inhibition of drug metabolising enzymes or drug transporters by diosmin and its aglycone diosmetin leading to interactions with drugs. Our study intended to add missing data to the interaction profile of both flavones. Diosmetin revealed to be the compound with the higher interaction potential i...

In this study, a novel enzyme-free assay was developed that relies on stacking hybridization and a photocleavable DNA-PL-peptide probe, which contains a reporter peptide (AVLGVDPFR), a photocleavable o-nitrobenzyl derivative linker and a detection DNA sequence that is complementary to a part of the target miRNA (e.g., miR-21, miR-125a or miR-200c). Stacking hybridization enabled the DNA-PL-peptide probe to capture DNA in a contiguous tandem arrangement to generate a long DNA single strand complementary to the target miRNA. Then, photolysis was initiated to rapidly release the reporter peptide, and the reporter peptide was ...

Pividori MI Abstract The exosomes are emerging as biomarkers for the detection of cancer in early stages, as well as for the follow-up of the patients under treatment. This paper describes the characterization of exosomes derived from three different breast cancer cell lines (MCF7, MDA-MB-231 and SKBR3), and the quantification based on a magneto-actuated immunoassay. The exosomes are separated and preconcentrated on magnetic particles by immunomagnetic separation and labelled with a second antibody conjugated with an enzyme for the optical readout performed with a standard microplate reader. Several molecular biom...

Publication date: Available online 20 February 2020Source: Seminars in Cancer BiologyAuthor(s): Licia Iacoviello, Marialaura Bonaccio, Giovanni de Gaetano, Maria Benedetta DonatiAbstractBreast cancer is the leading cause of death in women aged 20 to 50 years, with some geographical difference. The yearly incidence of the disease is increasing while the related mortality is steadily decreasing. Breast cancer is associated not only with specific hormones or factors related with reproduction, but mostly to more general environmental factors, linked to socioeconomic conditions and lifestyles (smoking, stress, physical exercise...

Authors: Rossi G, Zullo L, Cerbone L, Coco S, Longo L, Tagliamento M, Dal Bello MG, Boccardo S, Alama A, Genova C Abstract Introduction: Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPi) are already part of the armamentarium of drugs available against ovarian and breast cancer. There is less data available on the efficacy of these drugs in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).Areas covered: The authors have analyzed the preclinical studies that justified the use of PARPi in NSCLC. They then evaluate the in vivo efficacy of the combination of these drugs with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherap...

Conclusions: Docetaxel and epirubicin neoadjuvant chemotherapy showed a good response in locally advanced breast cancer. Pretreatment Ki-67 and change of Ki-67 may play a role as predictive factor for response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. PMID: 32069523 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
