Largest ever US study launches to research causes and genetics of blood diseases

(ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group) The National Myelodysplastic Syndromes Natural History Study is underway to collect detailed information and biological samples from 2000 adults with myelodysplastic syndromes and 500 patients receiving care for persistent unexplained anemia. A cohort of 1000 patients without disease will serve as a baseline group. With 3500 patients, this is the largest-ever prospective study of MDS in the U.S. Its purpose is to build a national resource to be used by scientists in future research.
