Mom Celebrates Rainbow Baby With IVF-Themed Pregnancy Announcement

When Macy Rodeffer learned that she was pregnant, she decided to announce the news with a photo that acknowledged her long journey with IVF. The mom-to-be posted an Instagram photo of her IVF medication in the shape of a heart around an ultrasound photo and onesie that says "Worth the Wait and Wait and Wait." "I knew that my announcement would hurt women still waiting for their baby, because I've been there before myself," Rodeffer told The Huffington Post. "It was important to me that my announcement not only convey my joy, but also share my struggle and encourage women not to give up." "While I don't expect everyone to share their infertility struggle (as it's a deeply private thing), I felt passionate about being an advocate for women with infertility and pregnancy loss," she added. Rodeffer and her husband Tyler spent almost four years trying to conceive -- a painful time that involved three miscarriages, a diagnosis of male factor infertility and severe endometriosis and surgery to remove a large ovarian cyst. After a January IVF cycle, Rodeffer learned she was pregnant with her rainbow baby, a boy due in October. For the pregnancy announcement, she drew inspiration from a viral photo of an infant surrounded by her mom's IVF medication. "The moment I saw that photo I knew that I wanted to do something that included all of my medicines, too," Rodeffer told HuffPost. The mom-to-be wants her photo to inspire...

Authors: Zhang Y, Pan J, Xu D, Yang Z, Sun J, Sun L, Wu Y, Qiao H Abstract Circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) are promising diagnostic markers in various types of cancers, including papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). However, there is sparse information reported with regards to miRNA expression in papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) or concerning the role of a combination of miRNAs and ultrasound (US) in the diagnosis of PTMC before surgery. Therefore, we designed a study that aimed to evaluate miRNA expression levels and their potential associations with US findings and determine whether miRNAs could be used as di...

Patients do an IVF treatment with lots of hope and expectations .This is especially true when IVF doctors promise them the moon , and are extremely optimistic when they want them to sign up for treatment. However, when the cycle fails, their hopes come crashing down. Not only are they depressed and frustrated, they lose confidence in doctors - especially when the doctor abandons them , and refuses to answer their calls or provide them any information as to why the cycle failed, and what they can do differently next time.Patients feel cheated and will not trust any other IVF doctor. This is why a shared risk option can be so v...

Abstract Atherosclerosis is the underlying cause of most myocardial infarction (MI) and ischaemic stroke episodes. An early sign of atherosclerosis is hypertrophy of the arterial wall. It is known that increased intima media thickness (IMT) is a non-invasive marker of arterial wall alteration, which can easily be assessed in the carotid arteries by high-resolution B-mode ultrasound. Similarly, the other key element of MI and ischaemic strokes is the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor which is an ionotropic glutamate receptor that mediates the vast majority of excitatory neurotransmission in the brain. NMDA activ...

We present a case of a 27-year-old woman in whom idiopathic hypersomnolence was diagnosed in adolescence with adequate symptomatic control on daily dosage of 250 mg of modafinil. She maintained this dosage throughout her pregnancy and during the peripartum period, but did not breastfeed her newborn because of a lack of information on the transmission of modafinil in human breast milk. Samples of her breast milk were obtained at various times over a 24-hour period and analyzed using liquid chromatography mass spectrometry. The relative infant dose was calculated to be 5.3%, below the threshold of concern for drug passage vi...
