Nocturia indicates a poor health status and increases mortality in male patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Conclusions The presence of nocturia was associated with erectile dysfunction, systemic vascular events, higher mortality, and indicated poor health in male with type 2 diabetic mellitus.

Conclusions A more precise definition of contamination and infection has to be made in guidelines, which may lead the first group to be treated without extraction. Surgical method defined in this study can be used for the treatment of patients in contaminated CIED subgroup, conserving individuals from risks of device extraction.

Conclusions Supporting the mechanisms of NO bioavailability via exogenous application of iNOS and L-arginine significantly attenuated I/R-induced alterations in a skin flap rat model. This pharmacologic preconditioning could be an easy and effective interventional strategy to uphold conversation of L-arginine to NO even on ischemic and type 1 diabetic conditions.

Authors: Huang SY, Yu B, He X, Chen Y Abstract To compare intrapartum results associated with differing degrees of ketonuria in nulliparous women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), we implemented a retrospective cohort study comparing clinical characteristics among differing degrees of ketonuria and the duration and distribution of ketonuria at different stages of labor. We also analyzed adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes for each group. A total of 570 GDM deliveries were included; of these, 238 had negative ketonuria (41.8%), 180 had moderate ketonuria (31.6%), and 152 had ketosis (26.6%). The proportio...

Authors: Talba MA, Miaffo D, Poualeu Kamani SL, Kamanyi A, Wansi SL Abstract Cissus polyantha (Vitaceae) is a plant used in Cameroonian traditional medicine for the treatment of diabetes. The aims of this study were to evaluate the in vitro antioxidant and antidiabetic activities of the aqueous extract of Cissus polyantha leafy stems. The enzyme inhibitory activity was determined in vitro on α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes, followed by confirmative study in vivo on normal rats (oral starch and sucrose tolerance tests at doses of 111, 222, and 444 mg/kg). The ferric reducing antioxidant power ...

Authors: Jiang J, Huang D, Li Y, Gan Z, Li H, Li X, Bian K, Ke Y Abstract Modern research has shown that BanXia BaiZhu TianMa decoction (BBT) has the potential effect of lowering BP in vitro and in vivo. However, its therapeutic mechanism has not been clearly defined. The present study was designed to evaluate the protective effect of BBT on the heart by examining heart functioning and anti-inflammatory characteristics and to obtain scientific evidence for its further medical applications. BBT was extracted by decocting the herb extraction and analysed by HPLC. The left ventricular mass index (LVMI) was measured, a...

This study was conducted to identify the underlying molecular mechanisms. A diabetic rat model was generated by using a high-fat diet and streptozotocin (STZ) injection. Then, rats were given SJG at dosages of 400 mg/kg/d or 800 mg/kg/d by gavage for 8 weeks. After 8 weeks of treatment, blood glucose, serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and 24-h urinary albumin were measured. Histochemical staining and TdT-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) assays were performed in kidney. Kidney genomic expression in the SJG-treated group and diabetic group was detected by using a genome expression microarray. ...

Conclusions: IBV should not be neglected because of its significant mortality. The elderly and patients with comorbidities, such as hypertension, diabetes, and connective tissue diseases, are more likely to have severe IBV-related pneumonia. Higher heart rates, direct bilirubin levels, initial PSI scores, and lower platelet levels are correlated with hospital mortality. Increased uptake in tetravalent influenza vaccine should be very helpful in preventing future cases of IBV hospitalizations. PMID: 31828141 [PubMed - in process]
