Hypoglycemia in children with type 1 diabetes: unawareness is a concrete risk.

Hypoglycemia in children with type 1 diabetes: unawareness is a concrete risk. Curr Med Res Opin. 2016 May 4;:1-15 Authors: Franchini S, Comegna L, Prezioso G, Blasetti A Abstract The incidence of type 1 diabetes is increasing rapidly, especially in younger age groups. Severe hypoglycaemia is one of the most common and dangerous acute complications during insulin treatment in patients with type 1 diabetes. A large number of studies have evaluated the incidence and predisposing factors of severe hypoglycemia in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes. We review the relevant issue of hypoglycemia unawareness and comment the evidences highlighted by Shaefer and colleagues. PMID: 27142345 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
