Abstract Ovarian dysgenesis, short stature, and infertility are common features of Turner syndrome (TS). Endocrinopathies and cardiopathies are less common, but may induce significant complications, and are the leading cause of mortality in TS patients. Endocrine abnormality including osteoporosis occurs in up to 60% of patients, hypothyroidism at an incidence of 3.2%, and impaired glucose metabolism with variable incidence depending on the age group. Estrogen therapy and growth hormone therapy, alone or combined, improve height and bone mass in TS patients. Autoimmune hypothyroidism is prone in the X-isochromosom...

I was browsing the internet one day and came across a photo of a group of women who appeared educated and influential. They were wearing blue T-shirts with claims that vaccines cause autoimmune diseases, seizures, ADHD or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, learning disabilities, death, autism, sudden infant death syndrome and infertility. I couldn’t help but laugh at them! I shared this photo on my Facebook page. To my surprise, one of my educated friends shared her concern about vaccinations and declared that she had withheld immunization from her own children. I decided to write this paper for young women li...

AbstractPurpose of ReviewImmune checkpoint therapy has grown in prominence in the last few decades and is being increasingly utilized in treatment of advanced cancers. Although information on toxicities of these drugs is forthcoming, not much is known regarding the toxicity profile of these drugs from a sexual function standpoint. We undertook the current review to appraise the literature for endocrine/sexual side effects of anti-PD-1/PD-L1 and anti-CTLA-4 therapy.Recent FindingsOur review included 32 articles and focused primarily on the programmed death (PD) pathway. We found that endocrine side effects after anti-PD-1/P...

Abstract Krüppel-like zinc finger proteins form one of the largest families of transcription factors. They function as key regulators of embryonic development and a wide range of other physiological processes, and are implicated in a variety of pathologies. GLI-similar 1-3 (GLIS1-3) constitute a subfamily of Krüppel-like zinc finger proteins that act either as activators or repressors of gene transcription. GLIS3 plays a critical role in the regulation of multiple biological processes and is a key regulator of pancreatic β cell generation and maturation, insulin gene expression, thyroid hormone bios...

Castelán F, Cuevas-Romero E Abstract Dyslipidaemia and hyperglycaemia are associated with ovarian failure and both have been related to hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism promotes anovulation and ovarian cysts in women and reduces the size of follicles and the expression of aromatase in the ovary of rabbits. Considering that ovarian steroidogenesis and ovulation depend on lipid metabolism and signalling, the aim of the present study was to analyse the effect of hypothyroidism on the lipid content and expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) δ in the ovary. Ovaries from female rabbi...
