Inflammatory protein involved in autoimmune diseases has healing potential

(University of California - Riverside) Researchers at the University of California, Riverside have found that TNF-alpha, a proinflammatory molecule and protein produced by the body's cells during infection, also promotes the immune system regulatory responses by first inducing immune surveillance cells--a finding that could lead to more targeted drug therapies for treating several autoimmune diseases.
