Pandemic E. coli strain H30 cloaks its stealth strategies

(University of Washington Health Sciences/UW Medicine) The difficulty in subduing the pandemic strain of drug-resistant E. coli H30 may go beyond patient vulnerability or antibiotic resistance. It may have an intrinsic ability to cause persistent, harmful, even deadly infections. No other type of E. coli causes as much widespread damage worldwide. H30 can go unnoticed at first because it begins as a subtle, hard-to-detect infection, usually of the urinary tract. Then it later causes complications.
