Vertebral bone marrow diffusivity in healthy adults at 3T diffusion-weighted imaging.

Vertebral bone marrow diffusivity in healthy adults at 3T diffusion-weighted imaging. Acta Radiol. 2016 Apr 10; Authors: Jie H, Hao F, Na LX Abstract BACKGROUND: There has been controversy surrounding the relationship between diffusivity and age in vertebral bone marrow. In particular, gender-related factors that influence the vertebral bone marrow conditions have not yet been identified. PURPOSE: To determine the age- and gender-related diffusivity changes of the lumbar bone marrow by measuring the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 125 healthy adult volunteers were enrolled in this study. Sagittal magnetic resonance (MR) diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) of the lumbar spine was performed. The ADC values of vertebral bone marrow were measured and compared between gender and age groups. Correlation analysis was used to evaluate the correlation between the ADC values and age. RESULTS: The ADC values of the female participants were significantly higher than those of the male participants (P = 0.023). Among individuals aged less than 50 years, the ADC values of the female participants were significantly higher than those of the male participants (P

Discussions about sexuality and reproduction are an important part of transition planning and must be done with an awareness of the adolescent’s developing understanding and maturity. Pregnancy imposes a hemodynamic load on the heart which may lead to cardiac, obstetric, and fetal/neonatal complications in women with CHD. Prepregnancy counselling must include an assessment of maternal and fetal risk according to several well developed models. Counselling should also include discussions about fertility and alternatives to pregnancy when appropriate. Recommendations for contraception must be made according to the patie...

This transition happens due to changes in ovarian follicular activity, leading to endocrine, biological and clinical modifications. The main hormones related to these changes and symptoms are oestradiol, LH, FSH, AMH, Inhibin B and GnRH. It is important to point out that the skin is very affected by all these hormone changes, leading to a dec...

Authors: Akiyama A, Minaguchi T, Fujieda K, Hosokawa Y, Nishida K, Shikama A, Tasaka N, Sakurai M, Ochi H, Satoh T Abstract Type II endometrial carcinoma mainly originates from p53 aberration. However, the detailed prognostic significance of p53 aberration in endometrial carcinoma remains to be clarified. In the present study, abnormal p53 accumulation was analyzed using immunohistochemical techniques in endometrial carcinoma samples derived from 221 consecutive patients. The expression levels of p53 were associated with clinicopathological parameters and patient survival. P53 overexpression was observed in 37/221 ...

by Fr édéric Thomas, Mathieu Giraudeau, François Renaud, Beata Ujvari, Benjamin Roche, Pascal Pujol, Michel Raymond, Jean-François Lemaitre, Alexandra Alvergne Why a postfertile stage has evolved in females of some species has puzzled evolutionary biologists for over 50 years. We propose that existing adaptive explanations have underestimated in their formulation an important parameter operating both at the specific and the individual levels: the balance between cancer risks and cancer defenses. During their life, most multicellular organisms naturally accumulate oncogenic processes in their bo...

Men have a higher tendency to accumulate abdominal visceral fat compared to pre-menopausal women. The accumulation of abdominal visceral fat in men, which is a strong independent predictor of mortality, is mainly due to the higher dietary fat uptake by their abdominal visceral fat. Since dietary fat is absorbed by the enterocytes and transported to the circulation in the forms of chylomicrons and very low density lipoproteins (VLDLs), it is crucial to understand how these lipoproteins are different between men and women. The chylomicrons in men are generally bigger in size and more in quantity than those in women. During t...

Authors: Alpizar-Rodriguez D, Finckh A Abstract We read with interest the article by Berens, et al 1 reporting that increasing age was associated with positivity for anticyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies (anti-CCP) 3.1 and anti-CCP-IgA in individuals at risk of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), that is, first-degree relatives (FDR) of patients with RA. We found similar results in a Swiss cohort of FDR: anticitrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA) positivity, particularly anti-CCP3.1, was associated with older age2 However, in contrast to Berens, et al 1, we found a peak in prevalence in the age group of 45 to 55 year...

Nature Reviews Urology, Published online: 04 December 2019; doi:10.1038/s41585-019-0266-3The role of testosterone in female sexuality is still controversial. In 2019, a meta-analysis and a Position Statement on testosterone therapy for hypoactive sexual desire disorder in menopausal women and a Position Statement on the potential sexual adverse effects of hormonal contraception have begun to close this gender gap.
