Imaging of a Fatal Air Embolism from ERCP (P4.363)

CONCLUSIONS: Though most of the occurrences in relation to ERCP are portal venous air embolisms, which are absorbed spontaneously, serious and sometimes fatal complications have occurred including arterial air embolisms causing multiorgan damage including cerebral infarcts. Case history, pertinent imaging and pathological findings are discussed to bring awareness of this rare complication of ERCP and emphasize its early recognition. This study investigates the use of photoplethysmography (PPG) as a comfortable alternative to electrocardiography (ECG) for heart rate variability (HRV) analysis. Although HRV is typically analyzed from an ECG trace, PPG poses a likely alternative, as arterial pulsations and peripheral tissue perfusion (as measured by PPG) are coupled with cardiac electrical activity (as measured by ECG). PPG may be more desirable in some clinical circumstances, as a fingertip optical sensor is more comfortable for patients than ECG electrodes, and can reduce waste by not needing to be disposed after each use. Objective. The aim of this st...

This study investigated the interaction of synthesized immunogenic ‘a’ determinant (aD) region of hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) with PAMAM G4 and anti-HBsAg antibody, as a potential bio-nanogate for anti-HBsAg detection. The aD peptide fused with maltose binding protein (MBP), was confirmed with Western blotting. Nano-Differential Scanning Fluorimetry (nano-DSF) study revealed that the interaction of MBP-aD with anti-HBsAg indicated a higher thermal stability as compared to its interaction with PAMAM G4. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy showed that a higher binding constant of MBP-aD interacti...

Authors: Anqi C, Takabatake K, Kawai H, Oo MW, Yoshida S, Fujii M, Omori H, Sukegawa S, Nakano K, Tsujigiwa H, Jinhua Z, Nagatsuka H Abstract The stroma affects the properties and dynamics of the tumor. Previous studies have demonstrated that bone marrow-derived cells (BMDCs) possess the capability of differentiating into stromal cells. However, the characteristics and roles of BMDCs in oral squamous cell carcinoma remain unclear. The current study therefore investigated their locations and features by tracing green fluorescent protein (GFP)-labeled BMDCs in a transplantation mouse model. After irradiation, BALB-c ...

ConclusionIncidence of complications is higher when a graft is used over a native AVF. However, close surveillance and prompt intervention can lead to multiple successful salvage procedures thus prolonging the lifespan of the graft. As in our case we were able to prolong the lifespan of the AVG with multiple successful interventions.
